Apple iPhone 6 Will Finally Be Revealed Next Week

The time has come, techies. One of this year's biggest announcements in the tech world is officially going to be made on September 9, when Apple unveils its iPhone 6 to the public. Press invites have been sent out for the date with a brief statement — in Apple's signature, pre-launch, very vague fashion — saying, "Wish we could say more." If the Cupertino company follows the standard launch cycle, that puts the smartphone in the hands of the public for purchase within 10 days of launch. So, start prepping your wallet and circle September 19 on your calendar.
Apple set its launch date just a week after Samsung announced its new smartphone, the Galaxy Note 4, on September 3, at a conference held in Berlin. Both companies have supersized their products with bigger screens, specs and features, as phablets start taking over the smartphone industry.
While Samsung's approach was small — primarily key updates and fixes from their previous Note 3 — Apple will completely overhaul the iPhone in design and in software, with the new iOS 8 more than likely pre-loaded onto the phone. There are also rumors that more than one iPhone will be revealed; a 4.7-inch smartphone and a 5.5-inch phablet, possibly dubbed the iPhone 6L or iPhone Air. While both versions are expected to launch at the same time, there may be production delays that cause the larger phone to come out later than September.

And in keeping with tradition, it is more than likely that with new Apple hardware will come new Apple software. iOS 8, an update from the massive changes introduced to the mobile platform with iOS 7 last fall, will be more heavily integrated with other Apple devices, allowing AirDrop and contact syncing between your Macbook and iPhone, for example. Healthkit, the highly-anticipated health and fitness app built into iOS 8, will be used to monitor everything from a user's heart rate to their blood sugar.
According to leaked pictures from earlier this year, the new Apple phone will be slimmer and sleeker than the 5S and 5C. Rumors have said that the screen will be made of Sapphire crystal, and that a 10-megapixel camera and wireless charging capabilities will be added. Similar to relocating the headphone jack to the bottom of the phone on the 5S, the power button may be moved to the side of the iPhone 6 near the external volume controls.
iWatch, Apple's first wearable watch, is rumored to be announced at the event, as well. The tech giant received a patent in July that covers multiple different kinds of smartwatches, including the all-in-one "iWatch" design that resembles most of the ongoing rumors we've heard about, as well as a second design that includes a smart strap, which has integrated sensors and controls to host a portable unit that can be removed.
There hasn't been a confirmed price of the iPhone 6, although most experts pin the price at at least $100 more than the 5S when it was released last year. The final price will be contingent upon whether or not the company does use Sapphire glass — a material seven-times as costly as the Gorilla glass Apple has traditionally used for iPhone screens.
Of course, all these details are still just rumors. We still have another week to go until the Apple team reveals exactly what it's been up to for the past year.
